Get an Excellent Understanding of the Mold Removal / Remediation & Claims Process

We don't do mold remediation, but when doing inspections, claims, and project management, we work first-hand and on-site with a lot of companies that do. As an advocate for homeowners and business owners, our experience allows us to provide honest, fair, and complete answers to quesitons about the mold remediation process in Florida.

  • A standard residential inspection (up to 2,500 sq ft) usually takes 1-2 hours, depending on property size, accessibility, and complexity. Commercial inspections or those requiring extensive sampling may take 3-4 hours or more. We’ll provide a detailed report within 24-48 hours after lab results (if testing is included).

  • No, not always. If visible mold is extensive and the source is clear, remediation can proceed without testing. However, testing is crucial for health concerns, identifying hidden mold, species identification (e.g., toxic species), baseline air quality, or insurance/post-remediation clearance. We recommend it in about 60% of Florida cases due to high humidity.

  • Stop the moisture source immediately (fix leaks, reduce humidity below 60% with dehumidifiers). Avoid disturbing visible mold to prevent spore spread. Contact JRG for a prompt inspection—we prioritize South Florida properties. Do not attempt bleach cleanup yourself, as it doesn’t address roots or hidden growth.

  • It depends on the cause. Sudden, accidental water damage (e.g., burst pipe) is often covered up to policy limits, but gradual leaks, floods, or poor maintenance are typically excluded. Florida law requires insurers to offer limited mold coverage endorsements. JRG assists with claims documentation to maximize approval chances.

  • Maintain indoor humidity below 50-60% with AC and dehumidifiers. Ensure proper ventilation in bathrooms, kitchens, and attics. Fix leaks within 24-48 hours. Use mold-resistant paints/products in high-risk areas. Schedule annual HVAC inspections and elevate items in crawl spaces. JRG offers prevention consultations post-inspection.
